arimidex ovarian(?)pain

by dubious, Aug 28, 2002 12:00AM
Have been taking arimidex 1 mg/day for 6 mos. for early bc.
47 yrs, chemotherapy-induced menopause, hormone levels checked prior to start of arimidex, indicating post-menopausal levels.
Periods regular up to start of chemo. Have been having periodic (forgive the pun) left-sided lower abdom. pain, which feels like it could be from my ovary. My question: Could my periods be trying to come back (it is my understanding that chemo-induced menopause is not always permanent), even given my age?  I have informed my onc. of this new development, and am impatiently (hence my query) waiting to hear back from her.

Dear dubious, The way arimidex works is to interfere with the conversion of androgens (hormones made in the adrenal gland and stored throughout the body)into estrogen.  Certain levels of estrogen would be needed for your periods to be able to resume.
