armpit lymph node

armpit lymph node

I recently had an ultrasound of my left armpit as a result of dull pain I was experiencing.  I also occasionally have a tingling sensation in my left arm.  The ultrasound revealed that I had one "not quite normal" lymph node.  My general doctor suggested that I have it removed.  I am wondering if I should get a second opinion before I undergo surgery, but I"m not sure what type of doctor I would actually go to for something like this.  Any suggestions?

The removal of a lymph node is a simple procedure and a General Surgeon would be the type of Dr. you would want to do this procedure. The Surgeon may have a different opinion as far as the removal of the node but that would be discussed at your first appointment. Keep in mind that when even one lymph node is removed you may be at risk for developing Lymphedema at any time in the future.  Regards .....

I would definitely have a second opinion. Ask your PCP not to schedule an appointment that already assumes you will have surgery but more of a consultation. It is best to go through your own , familiar doctor to do so.

First it's what japdip already brings up and the potential development of lymphedema, but then more so, the lymph node could be purposeful and due to an underlying infection or even something more serious. of course with any surgery they would test for this but I would only mess with someone who is really an expert.
