asymmetric glanduar parenchyma

post menopause, 53, Had firm breasts and an area in the right that the Gyn always said press hard with you self breast exam.  Dense area. Last year and a half breasts softer and saggy. Had a period of weight lost. Since gain some back. No lumps shown or felt.
MAMO: asymmetric glandular parenchyma, upper right anterior. No suspicous microcalifications detected, skin and nipple contours unremarkable. Left breast Periareolar 4mm hypoechic circumscribed nodule, minimal echos. ULTRASOUND said focal asymmetry persists upper anterior right breast- demonstrates configuration felt likely to be asymmetric glandular parenchyma. No cystic or solid nodules in right breast. Said glandular appearing asymmetric density superior right breast with negative right ultrasound. Left breast small probable slightly complicated cysts 4mm, 3'oclock periareolar.   A MRI was done  results were COMPLETELTY NORMAL
Gyn sent me last month for a 6 month Mamo and utrasound, which came out the same. Can you comment on this?

My report came back similar, mine has a comment that appears to be related to a combination of cystic mastopathy as well as intramammary lymph nodes without definitive mass seen.  Does this mean I am at higher risk for breast cancer?  This is really scary.

Thank you

Dear alpme:  Dense breast tissue can make mammographic interpretation more difficult.  When there is an area of concern, additional evaluation is often recommended.  Simply put, asymmetric glandular parenchyma refers to breast tissue that does not look uniform.  That the other tests came out benign suggests that this is normal tissue.  Sooner follow-up is often recommended in these situations to be certain that there have been no changes.
