atypical cells

I recently had a fine needle aspiration done on a bloody cyst - all that came out was blood and a very small amount, as it was only 0.6cm - the cyst was completely gone after the fna.  When I recieved the results the Dr. said no cancer cells but there were some "atypical cells" noted.  What is the protocol for this type of determination ?  What should I do ?  Please advise.  Also, does this now increase my risk of developing breast cancer - will this turn into breast cancer at some point - are atypical cells common  ( the only history is my Maternal Aunt had Breast Cancer @ 63 yrs old)  - Thank you !

Hi,
The fine needle aspiration report showed some atypical cells. The term "atypical cell"  is used for the cell that is not similar to as a normal cell of that tissue should look.
This should not be much concern at the moment and the time for  a strict follow up as per your doctor's suggestions has come.

There may be possibility of progression but it would be difficult to comment on the issue of progression to malignancy.
