atypical ductal hyperplasia

atypical ductal hyperplasia

I have been diagnosed with atypical ductal hyperplasia after two biopsies. The second was done sugerical. On Wednesday, which the Dr. said he went in blind and did what the radiologist said to do. I am scared that he did not know what he was doing. I have been told if they remove the hyperplasia than I will not have cancer. However they did send it to the pathology. Today is Saturday and still have not heard. I did call and the nurse said it does take a couple of days to get the results. Should I worry?

Dear bigsexymama:  When a biopsy is done, the tissue sample is sent to a pathology lab for analysis.  The pathology doctors will do special stains and tests on the tissue and examine it under a microscope.  This process can take about a week to complete.  So the pathology report may not be back for several days yet.  The time it takes does not indicate anything good or bad.  Once the results are in, your and your doctor should discuss the results, either way.

I am the person who had two sterotypic needle biopsy and a surgerical biopsy. The Surgerical biopsy was done on January 24th. I do not feel like myself. I having pains now in both breast, the right breast is the one I had the surgical biopsy. I am light headed and my lips go numb about four times a day. I quit taking the pain medication, but the pain still persist along with the dizziness and numbness of the lips. I also cry alot. What is wrong with me. Is this normal? I would not go through this again I rather die . Jenny

It actually sounds like you are having some panic attacks. Ask the doctor for some xanax or something. I had them to and also had crying spells and nightmares. If you read through the post someone else here had atypical hyperplasia and it was not cancer. Mine was. Waiting for the results is the hardest part as you can tell by reading everyone elses post.  The pain in your breast will subside. It may take months to go away completely. Jenny this is a very hard thing to deal with but I honestly don't thnk you would rather die. You are stronger than you realize and you WILL get through this. Please keep us posted. I am sorry you are having to go through this. I will keep you in my thoughts.

thanks for responding to my comment. I just got the result in and it is not cancer!!! The nurse said the dr will discuss the pathogy results with me next week. This is a big relieve. We are building a house and it is getting closer to completion. Now I can start focusing on it and not myself. I hate that your hypaplasia turned out to be cancer. I will keep you in my prayers. The dr has me out of work until the 8th of Feburary. I wish I could go back sooner, but the school said that if I do go back that they will be liable if anything could happen so I will have to stay out until the dr releases me. Last night I took a sleeping pill and I feel much better now. Especially knowing that it is all over. Thanks a bunch for all the information. It is so strange that when my dr convienced me in having a mammogram when I went to him for a cold or else I would not have known about the hypaplasia (which is nothing) I hope that we will be able to stay in touch because this has been a big help. I am so happy that your results turned out fine. Now you can move on with your life. However with hyperplasia I would have regular mamograms as it is sometime related to cancer. Hyperplasia is sometimes a cancerous condition. I am glad you got great news just follow up yearly or every 6 months. I am not a doctor just trying to help.

I've been reading your posting and others' replies tonight.  I'm so happy you are ok.  Today I met a surgeon for a consult and found out my biopsy is a BIRAD 4 for the right breast.  When I met with the oncologist for the first time last Friday he felt other lumps in my left breast.  This is making me nervous.  I am having an MRI done on both shortly.  Then, will meet with the surgeon and oncologist to decide course of action.

I did not know until tonight, reading everyone's postings what a BIRAD 4 is.  I can't thank you ladies enough for the information and the words of encouragement you have given each other.  I just found this site for the first time, and know of a comfortable place to go now when I need encouragement.

God bless!
