Hi, my sister is dignosed with DICS on 15th of April and Mastectomy has performed ASAP on 21st. She has microcalcification all over her breast. It is almost 9cm. We all are waiting for the pathology report for the further treatment.
I didn't ask why I needed general although I kept stating that I didn't want to go that route. He said he'd consider it. I don't know why he thinks it's dcis. That was the only condition he mentioned. I gather that it is ductal. I was told by my md after I had the stereotactic biopsy that they found clusters of microcalcifications with atypical ? I have my preop on April 24 and my biopsy on May 1st. What scares me is if dcis is 100% curable why have I read in some cases a woman might still need a mastectomy? Thanks for keeping in touch. It helps
Hi again, I guess the site doesn't allow you to give out emails. Sorry. Michelle
How are you? I also met with my surgeon yesterday. My ex. bio is on monday so I had a long day yesterday (preop testing, mammos, surgeon app't). I have some questions for you because my surgeon seemed leaning towards benign.
1. do you have atypical LOBULAR or atypical DUCTAL?
2. Is this from calcifications or a lump?
3. Why general anesth? Usually it is general sedation? My husband is an anesthesologist.
4. Did you ask him WHY he was leaning toward DCIS? My surgeon told me only 25% are DCIS upon excision.
Please contact me. If you want to email directly.... ***@****. My name is Michelle.
I know what you are going through. Keep in mind that even with DCIS 100% of women are cured. That is why we do mammograms. I look forward to hearing from you.
Hi , I met with the surgeon who is going to perform the excisional biopsy today. He seems to be leaning towards the diagnosis of dcis, which he says is a cancer but a noninvasive cancer. To me though cancer is cancer. It's still scary. He wanted to do the biopsy next week although I wanted to get my bearings so we settled for May 1. I asked alot of questions and can't remember most of the answers. I guess I was too nervous. I didn't know I would be under general anesthesia. Everyone told me it would be a local. That in itself is scary. I have never been put under before. If it is as he suspects he said I might get a treatment of hormone therapy and maybe even radiation. It makes me nervous that he can say all of this and not even have performed the biopsy. Keep me posted on your condition.
Hi I am going for preop testing, mammo and to meet with surgeon today. My surgery is monday. I will let you know what he says today. Hopefully he will be reassuring. Yes, I have two kids, 11 and 10. Hope you have a nice day.
That's my fear also. I had a couple of areas of concern all on my left breast. My fear is that with the open biopsy they will test the other areas and find cancer. Never thought I'd be thinking of breast cancer. Nothing like this in my family. I go from being upbeat to feeling bad for myself. And then I feel ashamed of myself. You hear so much about other women who have been through so much and yet they are so strong. I have 5 children and I haven't told them anything. Don't want to worry anyone. Do you have children?
Dear shabby6485, A core biopsy takes a sample of tissue from an area of concern. When the sample is reviewed by the pathologist and the results reviewed by the radiologist the findings are evaluated in context of all of the test results. In a situation where the biopsy comes back as benign – the doctor puts this information in context. If there is concern that the biopsy sample missed something – they may want to get more tissue to be sure. A surgical biopsy removes more tissue. Wanting to remove more tissue to be sure nothing was missed does not mean for sure that there is cancer there.
Scary how similar our situation is. Had my stero. last monday also. This after routine mammo and calcifactions of left. Biopsy showed benign but atypical lobular hyperplasia. I was told it was a small am't. Now I will have excisional bio. next monday. I assume your first biopsy was benign with atypical cells. My fear is that they go in and find cancer. I read alot and there are so many different estimates on the probability that a more serious lesion will be found during open bio. These few weeks have been hell. Please take care and best wishes.
I have an appt with the surgeon who will be performing my open biopsy. I had a stereotactic biopsy last monday and they found areas of microcalicifications and atypical cells. I don't know if these are benign or malignant. I haven't been able to eat or sleep also. Just wanted you to know that I feel the same way you do. Did you have any symptoms like a lump or were you like me. No symptoms just a routine mammogram that showed suspicious areas in my left breast. Don't have any answers for you, just saying GOOD LUCK.
