axilla lump

axilla lump

About 4 months ago I noticed a very small hard, non painful lump under my right arm. I decided to see if it went away before going to my doctor and of course in my busy life, I forgot. Last week, while doing a self breast exam, I noticed the lump and it was slightly larger and about pea size. It remains completely non painful, does not move and isn't moveable. I had a normal mammogram 8 months ago prior to having Breast Augmentation. I am healthy, no immediate family history of cancer. My doctor is treating me first with an antibiotic assuming something has caused inflammation in a lymph node. Im to return in 3 weeks for re-evaluation. Does this course of treatment seem appropriate? Should I be concerned that the Breast Augmentation is causing problems?
Thank you.....Jen

I doubt that the breast surgery has anything to do with the enlarged lymphnode unless there were some type of infection connected with it. Lymph nodes become enlarged for various reasons but an infection somewhere in the body is common. This is their job; to filter. The treatment you were advised is certainly appropriate considering the symptoms you describe. Often a lymph node will remain enlarged even after successfull treatment of the cause.    Regards ...
