axillary lymph node biopsy

I had a BIRADs 4 from a breast US that was a follow up to an abnormal mammogram. No lesions in the breast, but suspicious lymph nodes in axilla and behind right breast. I had a biopsy of an axillary node, and it was negative.. The us tech showed me the lymph node they were biopsying, and said it had a fatty hilam... The lymph nodes on US had a lack of fatty hilam. and thickened cortex... How can I be sure they biopsied the correct lymph node? and would the biopsy pick up other cancers, like lymphoma etc?

As I said in my previous comment, I strongly doubt that the wrong lymph node was biopsied. What is important here is that the biopsy done on the suspicious node resulted “negative for cancer”, even though it showed the loss of fatty hilum and thickened cortex on Mammogram or Ultrasound.
If you are still worried about the results, it would be a good idea to consult a Breast Specialist for a second opinion. Take all the films and the biopsy report to the Specialist and see what he/she will recommend.

Hi,
If the questionable lymph node has a central pale area representing a fatty hilum then this is a normal part of a lymph node. It's the absence of fatty hilum and thickened cortex that would make the node suspicious and that’s why a biopsy was recommended in your case. In my opinion, I don’t think the Surgeon or Radiologist biopsied the wrong lymph node. Please remember that BIRADS category 4 means that the lymph node is only suspicious but nothing more than that. Anyway, the biopsy is the only way to make sure that cancer is ruled out.
Wishing you all the best and I hope that your biopsy report will state benign findings.

Biopsy was negative... my concern is that the lymph nodes noted by the radiologist had the loss of a fatty hilum,, and a thickened cortex... ... but when they did the biopsy, that particular node did have   a fatty hilum. My question is  would it matter which node is biopsied, and
is other cancers would be found in the biopsy if there.  I have had thyroid cancer, with lymph node involvement,...
