Dear survival gym:  Cysts may or may not resolve on their own.  Unless they are painful, and sometimes they are, there is no reason to aspirate cysts. Sometimes your doctor will recommend that a cyst be aspirated if the ultrasound shows any additional tissues in the cyst.  This is known as a “complex cyst”.  This would be a usual procedure to ensure that there are no cancer cells.

very small cysts may go away. They often hurt. There's no need to remove them if it's known what they are and if they don't bother the woman who has them, because they are harmless. The reason to remove them (which is usually done by inserting a needle and drawing off the fluid) is if they bother the woman, or if there's a need to be absolutely certain they are indeed a cyst.
