bloody discharge from left nipple

I recently had a bloody discharge from my left nipple, this was a large amount, bleed through my bra onto my shirt.  I went to a Breast Cancer doctor, had a mammogram and ultrasound, showed nothing except dense tissue in left breast.  They took a smear of the discharge, results came back with benign atypical cells, what does that mean?  I had an MRI done on friday, still waiting on results.  My concern is the doctor does not know what could be the cause of the amount of bloody discharge, they are acting like I made up the amount, even though my husband and mom both saw my bra.  I have no family history of BC, but I am very scared doctor maybe missing something, this has been a month since I had the bloody discharge with no answers yet!

Results are in~ 4mm node found at the 6 O'clock location.  They are going to repeat the ultrasound. Hopefully we can then get some answers!

Hi.
A bloody nipple discharge can be caused by both benign and malignant conditions.  If with unilateral involvement, the cause should be sought and the underlying pathologic condition should be addressed.  Invasive cancers do not usually cause breast discharge.  However, this condition should be ruled out.
Examples of benign conditions that can cause bloody nipple discharge include breast abscess, mastitis, tuberculosis, fibrocystic disease, and intraductal papilloma.  Malignant conditions include breast carcinoma, sarcoma, and Paget’s disease of the nipple.
Please do post the result of your MRI.
Take care.
