blue breast discharge

My daughter has a blue discharge coming from both her breast. They leak some on their own and a lot when she sqeezes them. She said that they have been doing this for a couple of years. She is 38 years old and has one child, a daughter 19 years old. What can cause this condition and what is this condition?

I am a 43 yr old female that has had a blue (Kool-Aid blue) discharge in my left nipple for probably 8-10 years.  I did have it checked out by my primary when it first started & he had never seen anything like it before.  He tested it and it came back as a staff infection (don't know if I spelled it correctly).  He told me I could start antibiotics or it would probably go away on it's own...it has not.  They did do another mammogram - I had my 1st @ the age of 30 for a baseline) and it showed nothing.  I am going to see my gynecologist tomorrow & thought I would bring it up again to a different dr but I was wondering if your daughter had been seen for hers yet.  When I first had this there was NOTHING on-line about "blue" discharges only green, white or clear.  I have now found your post so I hope you see this.  Thanks - Kelly

Hi again,
I don't think her symptoms indicate breast cancer, but
I am afraid that over the Internet it's impossible to correctly diagnose any breast concerns. It could be many things like a milk duct problem, infection or hormonal imbalance, but she NEEDS to see a Doctor for evaluation to find out what exactly is causing this problem.
Your daughter can call her local hospital and ask to speak to a social worker. He/she will be the one who’ll know about the availability of free or low-cost Breast Clinics in her area.
All the best..

Thank you! I am corrected it's only one breast and sometime her blouse will get wet. She's not on any type of meds but was on the depo fo birth control from 1995 till 1998 and hasn't been able to conceive since. She gained a lot of weight when it started and the breast is a lot larger than the other. She doesn't have any money to go to the Dr. but I want to know if you think there are any signs of cancer or do you think that with this info. it's any different that the answer you gave me before is.                       Worried Mother

Hi,
Most nipples discharge can come in a variety of colors and is rarely a sign of breast cancer, especially when this happens bilaterally.
When nipples are squeezed, increases the Prolactin hormone level and the more your daughter squeezes her nipples the more the discharge will continue.
Some women are more prone to nipple discharge especially when they are on birth control pills, certain blood pressure medications or on major tranquilizers.
If the discharge is spontaneous and persistent it becomes concerning and she should see her doctor the sooner the better. Why wait? Having this problem for two years is far too long not to have her condition evaluated and treated.
Best wishes to both of you..
