Dear gina:  In general, areas of "concern" show up as dark areas on a bone scan. Other areas that will show up darker will include the injection site, the kidneys and any area that has bone damage.  Arthritis will also show up on a bone scan.  A radiologist is able to differentiate between benign bone damage and damage that is "concerning" or may represent cancer.

Hi ginalee, I'm not sure but I think that the abnormal areas on a bone scan show up as dark areas or they kinda look like a shadow.  This is what I have heard, but I don't know if this is correct.
Take care, hunnyB
