breast awareness

why is it you hear breast awareness and then when something comes up you feel pushed to the side?
I started having green and black drainage5 months ago. my primary dr sent me to get a mammogram that turned up positive for something, which caused another mammogram. before the mammogram I never did self breast exams, but after I found the "lump". The dr then sent me to a surgeon for follow up, which felt in the wrong spot and said "it doesn't feel like cancer", but sent me for an ultrasound. When I called to get results they said that the ultrasound didn't show anything and the dr said I didn't have to come back. The "lump" was still there. 5 months later I feel more "lumps" and now my glands in my neck are swollen, another dr for covering for my primary sent me to another surgeon that said Its probably a fibroid cyst and did a needle aspiration of one of the "lumps." and said the drainage is from caffeine, shouldn't they test the drainage for abnormal cells?
I'm waiting again to hear something. I feel like they don't take things as serious as they should.

The type of breast discharge you describe isn't usually considered particularly abnormal. Breast discharge can be almost any color and consistancy. I will say that "feeling" a lump cannot tell anyone exactly what it is since a biopsy is the ONLY way to tell if something is benign or malignant. The lumps certainly sound as though they may well be Fibroadenomas and these are benign breast tumors which are usually left alone unless they are terribly large or painful. In the abscense of other specific symptoms there would be no reason to test the discharge. I think if you are not satisfied with the Dr. you are seeing then you should see someone else and be sure you ask whomever the very same questions you are asking here.   Regards ....
