breast bleeding

breast bleeding

I am 19 years old and single. I didn't have any sexual activity when this happened. I had my breast bleeding after a few days of pain of my two breasts. I thought I'm going to have my menstruation because of the breast pain, however, I just found out that my left breast is starting to bleed. It doesn't bleed constantly. It usually takes two to five minutes for the next bleeding. The blood easily clot or form and I had painful nipple on my left breast. The center of the nipple is deep. On the other right breast, it usually have a white discharge and with a fowl smell. Please tell what's this and what should I do? Why is this happening?

Dear Bel,
Nipple discharge is most often from benign conditions. Some women are more prone to more discharge including women on; birth control pills, certain blood pressure medications or on major tranquilizers. These medications increase prolactin levels in the body. There is also certain life periods when a person is more likely to get discharge than others: there may be more discharge at puberty and at menopause than the years in-between.   However bloody discharge could be a symptom of something more serious.  This may be an infection, but the first step in finding out what is happening is to have yourself evaluated by a physician.
