I'm 48 had a mammogram & sonogram. there was a lump. my breast is so painful you can only imagine how painful the mammogram & sonogram were. i was diagnosed with mastitus never breastfed in my life. finished the antibiotics i had 10 supply (amox) i'm still having burning pain. Can a dr. make this diagnosis just from looking at a picture? Why & what would be causing this burning? thanks for you input.

I could just imagine the pain you went through!! :(
Yes,mastitis shows up on a mammogram as a bright white area and an Ultrasound will confirm the diagnosis.
Women who aren't breastfeeding can also develop mastitis.Bacteria can enter your breast through an opening in the skin, such as a dry, cracked nipple. Once inside your breast tissue, the bacteria can cause an infection.
As I mentioned in my previous post, please call your doctor,if the pain continues so that he/she can reevaluate your condition.
Take care..

Hi,
Mastitis is a breast infection and you have to make sure to take all of the prescribed antibiotics to keep the infection from returning a few days or weeks later.
If your breast is still painful, after you have taken all the antibiotics prescribed, you should call your health care provider without delay in case a different antibiotic is needed to cure the infection.
Ignoring mastitis can cause complications that can lead to breast abscess, which may require surgery to drain the abscess.
Please call your doctor if the pain does not subside.
All the best...
