breast calcification

I'm a 11 year breast cancer survivor and recently had a routine mammogram.  I was told I have calcifications in my other breast.  My blood work came back great.  My Oncologist said that it probably isnt anything but ordered a bilat mri.  Should I be worried?  I wasnt told what type of calcification it was.

Hi!
I would not be concerned until you have completed further diagnostic testing.  The MRI recommended by your Oncologist seems the best way to get started.  If anything suspicious is found then further testing can be done.  Blood work being "great" this calcification can be a normal process and totally unrelated to your prior cancer.
Congratulations on being an 11 year survivor -- you give hope to many on this forum who are just beginning their journey.
Good luck and best wishes for a completely negative testing!

Calcifications do occur normally within breast tissue. It's how they appear that can be cause for concern (patterns, groups, clusters). I'm not sure the MRI will show more than the calcifications seen on mammogram ... except for possibly a more detailed view. If they are clustered then a biopsy is usually recommended. Since you are a Survivor you know what the waiting game is all about.  Regards ....
