breast cancer and dying your hair

Do over the counter hair dyes with amonia have  harm for someone who has finished treatments. The ones without amonia don't cover gray as much. Is it safe to do highlights at a salon with their hair dyes ?

I can't speak to the subject in regard to someone who has recently completed, but this is info from the American Cancer Society regarding hair dyes in general:

"What Do the Studies in People Suggest?
Studies have looked at whether people who use hair dye products or people who regularly work with them have an increased risk of bladder cancer, leukemia, multiple myeloma, Hodgkin disease, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, lung cancer, breast cancer, oral cancer, and cervical cancer. The evidence from these studies remains quite inconsistent. Most of the available evidence does not support a link to cancer risk. Those studies that do show a link find that it is too weak to be considered a major public health concern.

Studies such as these need to be repeated in larger groups of people so that experts can get a better look at possible problems linked to hair dye use."

I'd go with SueYoung on this one.

Best wishes...

Hi moureen,

I was told to wait 6 months to dye my beautiful (shocking white) hair after it came back in after chemotherapy. Some are never told a thing. I think there are links (elusive studies and such) stating that it's a risk but I don't know that anything has ever really been proven beyond a doubt.

Pick a sassy color for the sassy new you and Rock On sister!!!!
