breast cancer risk

I had an aunt on my fathers side who passed away from ovarian cancer, two of her daughters(my 1st cousins) have lost both breasts to breast cancer, and another aunt on my dads side that had breast cancer in one breast.  She passed away years later of lung cancer.  I also had an aunt on my mothers side that passed away from ovarian cancer, and a 1st cousin on my mothers side had recently lost a breast because of breast cancer.
I am considering a breast reduction,  and my Dr. has informed me that scar tissue may interfere with a mammogram, and may not detect breast cancer in it's early stages.  I am 50 years old and had a hysterectomy at 32, but still have my left ovary.  Can you tell me what my risks are of getting breast cancer, and is it advisable to get a breast reduction.  Thankyou kIndly for your time.

Although there is family history, it isn't very close (mother, sister)and it isn't all breast cancer. Scar tissue can interfere with future imagery and there are more types than mammogram in use in the detection of abnormalities in the breast. Ultrasound is often used as well as breast MRI and most tests can differentiate between scar tissue and other abnormal findings. General risk is 1 in 8 in a lifetime but many factors have to be considered to be any more definite than that. I see no reason why you should not have the breast reduction if that's what you desire.    Best wishes ....
