breast cyst

Hi there,
I am 26 years old.  4 years ago I first discovered a small 3 mm cyst in my right breast, I got it checked and it was benign and they said it wasn't worth the surgery or anything.  It only acts up around my period.  But this past week or so, it is feeling bigger and I wake up in the night with lots of pain.  It seems to go away when I sit up and stuff, but I sleep on the one side often, and the other thing is that my period isn't close enough for my hormones to trigger it yet.  Can it be cancerous?  Or is it normal for cysts to grow over time and still be no threat?  I have one child, had him young, he is 8.  Other than that, no past health history.

You welcome!
I am glad that you saw your doctor and to know that you feel relieved knowing that the problem with the pain you are experiencing will be over soon.
Primrose oil + vitamim B6 ( Sorry I forgot to mention it in my previous comment) has helped a lot of women with the pain due to Fibrocystic Condition and of course avoiding caffeine intake too.
Please let us know how things are proceeding.
Best of wishes and good luck...

Thank you for the response.  I feel better already, I did go to my doc and he is sending once again for an ultrasound plus to meet with a surgeon.  I would like to get this one dealt with, it is much larger and extremely painful, mostly as night!  My doctor also suggested avoiding caffeine, but taking primrose oil and vitamin b6, so I am doing that in the meantime.
Thanks again for the peace of mind!

Hi,
A cyst is a fluid filled structure and is, by definition, benign in nature. If it enlarges and becomes painful, it can be aspirated by a fine needle. Assuming that it has been confirmed that this is a cyst, there is no reason to worry, because cysts do not become cancerous. However, if you are concerned, you should discuss this with your doctor to order an ultrasound to make sure that it is indeed a cyst.
Try to avoid caffeine ( coffee, chocolate colas etc) because this product could be a main pain causing factor.
Best wishes.
