breast discharge and other problems

About 4 years ago I started to have thick white puss looking discharge from one side of one of my nipples. At the time it would only happen every couple of mnths. My ob said it was just like a pimple and nothing to worry about. About 2 yrs ago the discharge got more often. About 6 mnths ago I got a hard knot on the side of my nipple and my whole breast hurt so bad even to lay on. I stuck a safety pin (not smart I know..lol) in the knot and tons of dark green puss came out. Now it is getting to where the thick white pus comes out everyday and occasionaly clear discharge mixed with blood comes out. Not all of the lump on the nipple went away and my breast is now shrinking alot smaller than the other. When I raise my arms it is like 1/3 the size of the other. My Aunt died of breast cancer. I have a dif. ob now. She has put me on 2 rounds of antibotics and it didn't help. She freaked out the other day. The main ob said to do a thyroid and pit. gland test on me and asked me how old I was now. Those came back normal. For the last 2 mnths there has been a hard lump in the side of my breast. It does not move and feels like it is close to my bones. To feel it you have to press hard. Can anyone tell me what this maybe...and a name of the condition you think it may be. Thank you

Dear Billyandsarah99:  Skin on the breast is not unlike skin on any other part of the body and is subject to abnormalities, such as pimples, for example.  Without examination, it is not possible for us to speculate on the cause of the discharge and the lump.  The general rule of thumb with a lump is that it needs to be evaluated.  You may benefit from seeing a breast specialist, given the problems you have had.  These specialists are usually located in large academic medical centers.

I myself am going through something similiar.  The antibiotis did not work for me either.  I did alot of online research which I would advise you to do.  I went through a few periods of antibiotics and nothing changed.  Now they are sending me for a momo/ultrasound.  From what I have read if the infection does not clear up they usually put you in the hospital for intravenous antibiotic.  After this, if it does not clear they begin mamo's and the like.  I don't know why my doctor has not chosen to do this in my case, although, I hate hospitals and am actually happy I don't have to spend day's in....Maybe your different and you'll go for this.  (at this point being that it has been so long for me I'm ready to bring this up to the doc....and maybe spend a few day's in...have you had any fevers along with this?  good luck!!!....hope it all works out for you..Remeber to do some research yourself and please let us know what happens....

Hi, last yaer my mom in law got a lump in her breast doctor told her to go for a mamography , in the test nothing had come out. The lump was very pain full & she was having fever also regurlary, then after having some mediceine s she was fine & then there was no pain & no lump also. After few months she had done a mamography , & the result showed that there is multiple cyst in both the breast . Now suddenly 4 months back she noticed that when she presses tha breast blood is comming out from the nipples & she is having pain also in the breast .She is having fever continuously & she had lost weight also. Showm to many doctors  but that r saying nothing to worry may be its a normal thing for a woman in her early 50 s . Can u pls help me i really dont know what to do .

I was thinking it was an infection at first as well...since I had the lump on the side of my nipple that had dark green stuff come out. The lump is still there. I have no fever and besides my usual leg and occas. back pain I don't feel sick.

hey hun,
You might want to make your own post about this, so more people will answer you. Alot of times people don't reread post that they have already read.
I would try and find a breast spec. for her to see. It doesn't sound to normal to me!
