breast exam results

My doctor called me and told me that the results of the mamogram (mammogram) show bunch of calcifications in the left breast.  I am freaking out she wants to send me to a surgeon.  Does this mean its breast cancer.  I am 39 years of age.  I got my peiord at the age of 10 and had endometrosis.  I had an eblasian done so I don't get my periods anymore as I was a heavy bleeder and last for 3 weeks.  I have a thyroid condidion thats under invesitgation and I also have spots on my lungs where they are looking into this as well.  I just want to know on top of everything I have does this mean I have breast cancer?  I am worried sick.

Hi there.

I understand your worries.  Breast calcifications are not tantamount to breast cancer although it is a possibility.  Other causes of these calcifications include fibrocystic disease and fibroadenoma which are benign breast changes.  Your surgeon would probably evaluate these findings and possible do a biopsy to be sure.  The spots in the lungs are also non-specific.  You could also discuss with your doctors regarding doing a PET-Scan, as this will differentiate if the spot in the lungs can be cancer or just a benign lesion.  I hope all the workups will be fine and turn out benign.

Regards and God bless.
