breast infection

by Lindahfme, Feb 28, 2009 09:12AM
I am 59 years old and yesterday I noticed pain in my breast.  After checking the breast, I noticed redness around the nipple and a red strick going up the breast.
Doctor has put me on cefzil 500 mg twice a day;  I also have been putting warm towels on the breast.,
what would cause this ?? Is there need to worry about cancer?

it just sounds like an infection, they are occurs in breastfeeding women (mastitis) but also in others who arent b.feeding. infections are basically just the duct becomes infected and so they put u on the antibiotics which should clear it up, but if it doesnt go back to docs obviously. infections arent associated with cancer i dont belive. they apparenty happn 90% of the time in women who smoke.
