I've had a persistent itch that seems to be originating inside my left breast for about four months. I am a 51 year old female who has had negative mammograms since about age 35. However, a fibroadenoma(about the size of a small lemon) was removed when I was 19. Within the last two years, I did have a very dense area in my left breast that was determined to be cysts. I've also had cysts in the past. About 3-4 years I had an itching problem, but trips to my general practitioner, gynecologist, and a dermatologist revealed no problem. This itch is more aggravating and has lasted much longer. There is no visible rash and no pain or leakage. I'm probably perimenopausal or menopausal, but I don't know since I had a hysterectomy in 1998. I breastfed three children, starting when I was 22. Any information that you will provide concerning this situation will be appreciated. Thank you.
Dear needsanswers: There are many possible causes of breast itching, including dermatitis, medications and a variety of others. If there are no other symptoms, and your breast evaluation (mammogram, clinical breast examination) are current and normal, you might seek out a medical breast specialist. These are often affiliated with large academic medical centers.
I will be very interested to see some of the comments you get. I, myself, have experienced breast itching, on and off, originating from within the breast. It is very uncomfortable. I never found much information on the intranet about breast itching, and though I considered whether this was something to be concerned about, I was not pro-active in following up with my doctor. Sure hope you get some relief and answers.
Thanks for sharing. There is an interesting article at http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0689/is_7_53/ai_n6130754 I found this when I searched on Google for breast itch. God bless you and have a wonderful day!
