breast lump test results

Hello, about four months ago I noticed that I had pain in my left breast.  It would come and go, so I didn't think much about it.  My mother whom had both breasts removed due to fibrocystic disease (Lumpectomies were repeated constantly and there were calcifications) told me to see a doctor.  A pea-sized lump was found in the left breast. I could not feel the lump when I did breast self-exams. I had a mammogram and an ultrasound which were normal. The radiologist told me to cut out the caffeine and to take vitamin E.  I have done both of those things, but I still have pain.  She felt the lump was caused by hormonal changes and the caffeine.  She said to follow up with my doctor in 6 months.  Should I have a second opinion?  Could it be something that is not showing up on the tests?  The pain has me very worried. I eliminated the caffeine and added the vitamin E but the pain is still there. Should I see a surgeon?  I was told by both doctors and the radiologist that it was nothing, but since there was no biopsy (they said there wasn't a need yet) my fears are still there.  Can someone please give me some advice?  I'm 34 years old.

Dear Shelly69:  Usually, breast cancer is not painful.  Also, both the mammogram and ultrasound are negative.  Given your age and that your mother had fibrocystic disease, it is possible that you may have the same difficulties.  If you are worried, get another opinion, if for no other reason than your peace of mind.
