breast lump with pain

I am 25 years old I need help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so I went to a doctor cause I noticed lumps in my breast that didnt feel right . the doctor I seen said she felt 2 full mass in both my breast then sent me to an ob who then said that they felt the lumps also and that he thinks it could be a cyst but wanted to make sure it was something else . so then he sent me in for an ultrasound so I went in for an ultrasound and the lady that was doing the ultrasound then ask me how I would feel about having a Mammogram done and I went on with telling her that I was told that at my age it wouldn't really show anything that good.  she went on to tell me that it would and that I should get one done because im having breast pain and that both test together are better then just having one done . then after she was done she said she was going to go talk with the radiologist and he would come back and tell me the findings that same day so ten mins later they both come back in the room and then the radiologist then started doing a little ultrasound on me and then when he is done he then says well the good news is I don't see any masses but the bad news is I don't know what the lumps are that they are probably fatty tissue. my question is why would he say he doesn't  see any masses but then say he doesn't  know what the lumps are and then just guesses on what they could be ? please someone help me

Hi,
Not all palpable lumps will appear on an ultrasound or mammogram. Each test has it's limitations and what it can pick up.You are not too young to have a mammogram and if your radiologist  recommends it,why not go ahead and get the ball rolling?
If the mammogram doesn't show anything, you still have other options.
One would be to have a MRI which is a very good tool to detect any abnormality especially when a woman your age or older has dense breasts.
The other option would be to have a biopsy .In my opinion if lumps are palpable, it really doesn't matter what the mammogram or ultrasound show. A lump is a lump and needs to be investigated.
A fine needle aspiration(FNA) is a simple procedure ...Fluid will come out if it's a cyst. If the lump is a solid one, the needle can sample it so that the cells extracted can be examined by a pathologist for a definite diagnosis.
Please don't jump to any conclusion...the fact these lumps are palpable but do not show on radiology, does not make them cancerous.Painful breast lumps could be cysts or Fibroadenomas and they are harmless and very common.
You may discuss with your Doctor or Radiologist about these different options and see what he/she recommends.
Best wishes....
