breast lump

Hi, I too am suffering from a lump left over from mastitis.  Was in hospital for 3 days a week after having my third child.  Needless to say the mastitis was bad enough but a year and a half later i still have a lump under my right nipple.  The lump itself is always there and the nipple is always inverted.  When my period is close to arriving the lump gets tender and I get shooting pains through it.  I guess hormones are playing a role in this but I am concerned that it may turn into something more sinister,  is there any foundation to my worry?

This discussion is related to Persistent Mastitis Lump Not helped by Antibiotics, what else could it be?.

Mastitis is often VERY hard to deal with and can last for a considerable length of time. I don't see that it can "turn into something" but I would suggest that you have some type of investigation to be sure that the lump is related to the mastitis. It does sound as thought hormones do play a roll in this from your description of the tenderness being cyclical in relation to your menses. I think I would still have it ck.d out by a Breast Specialist if you haven't had any type of imagery (Ultrasound) done on the area.   Regards ....
