Hello,
My mammogram found 2.4 cm asymmetric mass dencity associated with extensive pleomorphic microcalcifications highly suspicius of malignant neoplasm. I am schedule to see breast doctor tomorrow. I am so nervous and trying to read everithing about cancer on the net.Is any body had that kind of problems and it was not cancer?

Dear ezb74:  When a mammogram reports an abnormality, it reports the level of suspicion based on certain characteristics.  One cannot be certain that this is cancer without a biopsy.  The purpose of mammography is to identify potential problems and give direction for the next step in the evaluation.  Your breast doctor will hopefully shed some light on the situation for you.

Forget to tell that my mammogramm clasified as birad-4 and I am 32 with no history of breast CA

Hi ezb74, you are doing the right thing going to see a breast specialist.  Try not to panic, I know, easier said than done, but most microcalcifications are benign.  A Birads 4 is a system to rate mammograms which goes from 0 - inconclusive, to 5 - highly suggestive of malignancy.  They are probably going to recommend that you have a biopsy, either core needle or excisional.  You should go ahead and have the biopsy, that way you will know what you are dealing with.  The mass might just be fibrocystic changes in your breast.  Good luck.

Hi Everyone,
I went to the doctor today for consultation and she scheduled the ultrasound guided biopsy for next week. I will keep you posted.

A high percentage of birad 4 biopsies turn out benign. I hope you're in that percent. Waiting and worrying is so hard. You're doing the right thing by scheduling a biopsy and getting all the info you can. Keep us posted.

I had microcalcifactions with a birad 4 and it was benign..    50-80% are ususally benign so try your best to make yourself sick.  I know it is hard to do.  Also remember, that if there is something it is most likely in the very beginning stages and can be taken care of.  If you don't mind my asking, what made you go for a mammo in the first place at 32?  (glad you did!!)

Thank you for the information and support, it gives me some hope. I actually found the lump last week. It was so strange, because it is happened at night. I woke up in the middle of the night and found it. I am not superstitious, but it makes me feel that somebody is "watching" me. It is not a good thing to have it at first place, but I am kind of happy that I can take it under control now.

Hello, everyone!
I went for ultrsasound guided biopsy on 01.22.06. It was not too bad. The procedure took about 5 minutes and right after I was able resume all my daily activituies. Now the hardes part is waiting for the results. I am still very nervous and anxious. I just want to know the results and my options. Also I am afraid to wait to long and do not do anything in case if it is a CA.Thank you for your support. I will write about my results.

Hello everyone!
I finally got a results. They are not so good. I was diagnosed with high grade ductal carcinoma in situ. Good thing so that it is very early stage, so the prognosis should be good. I already schedule the surgery for the february 15. But before that I have to do blood work done and bone scan. If all goes well I just would need the 6 weeks of radiation after. I feel that the situation is uned control right now, it gives me some hope and strenght to continue my studying in nursing school. Thank you for your suport.

What kind of surgery will you be having? I would guess a streotactic biopsy. Sounds like you caught this very early. I had the same diagnosis, extensive DCIS and after surgery (masectomy - right) they found a small invasion of 0.09mm, no lymph nodes were infected so I caught it early still scared as hell though.  A good surgeon is the most important at this point and a second opinion. Then after surgery the waiting for the results is the hardest. I wish you well. Let us know. I wish you well.

I am going to have lampectomy. My tumor is not that small (2.4 cm)  that yours, but doctor is graded it  as 0 still, probably because of the cell type from the pathology report .

When is your lumpectomy? I am glad to see they caught it early. Will they check any lymph nodes? I hope after lumpectomy you can move on with your life.

I received a brochure to sign up for a breast cancer walk after I had my annual routine Bi-Lateral Mammagram. The next day I received a letter from the imaging center telling me to call my doctor to discuss the report and suggested additional tests called: Quad Compression MLO View as well as Laterally Rotated CC View and an Ultrasound. I can not find much information regarding these tests. The report further states: extremely dense breast tissue, a 2 x 1 cm asymmetry projecting over the pectoralis muscle in the deep upper breast on the MOR view. ACR BIRAD: Category 0: Assesment Incomplete-Need additional imaging evaluation.
Ironic isn't it? I have finally raised my kids, have a job that freed up my weekends and I thought awesome, I'm going to walk this year for the many women who deserve it. Anyway....now I am scared out of my head. I have my tests scheduled for 3/2/07. Does this sound like it will be okay? Truth please. Thanks

Remember there are a lot of "areas of interest" that get callbacks on mammograms and by far the majority of them end up ok. At this point they need to find out if your area is suspicious enough to warrant a biopsy (and even then, most biopsies turn out benign.) You really won't know much until they finish the additional images. Waiting and worrying is sooooo hard on us so I hope you get your results soon. Keep us posted. When you have more info we may be able to offer more help.

I am 24 Years old and I found a lump on a self breast exam. I am also 6 months pregnant with a little boy. My nerves have been so bad since the ultrasound that I think they are non-existant. I had a biopsy today and I haven't had much of an insight on this stuf aside from what I have read on the internet. What I would like to know is.......    It is hard and does that mean that it is more than like malignant? They had to do a core aspiration biopsy.....why did they do that instead of a fine needle? Am I as a smoker and being pregnant more or of good cadidate for malignancy??

I have seem lumps go either way. Try not to get ahead of a diagnosis. Does breast cancer run in your family? As far as smoking I don't think it causes breast cancer. After this is over with and you get benign results there is genetic testing that will tell you if you carry the gene. The type of biopsy they do depends on how suspious the area looks and the position of the area. I know how scared you are but even if it is cancer it is not a death sentence anymore. There are many ways of treating breast cancer now. Some very simple. You said you had an ulrasound. I am sure you had a mamo, what did they say about it. Did you get to view the films? Let us know when you get the results. I wish you well.

Yes, I do have plenty of cancers that have gone through my family. Non in my immediate family though. That works on my side but if anyone in my family is going to get it, it will be me. I am worried concidering that I am pregnant and I keep thinking what am I going to do about chemo if I do have it. Will they take the baby early? Will they wait until my due dat which is 4 months away? This is all bogging me down so much.
I actually didn't have a mammogram. They only did an ultrasound and then they said that they could see it enough to be concerned and that it was 2 centimeters. I went in for an ultrasound guided biopsy. They called it a hard mass and they took a core asperation biopsy. Those words had me a bit freaked out. Needless to say I have PTSD from a car wreck and made it worse but I didn't know if hard mass was a key word for cancer or what. Getting answers from anybody is like pulling teethe. I know they have to cover themselves and they were very sweet but I dont know what all of this lingo means. Any clue?

I am sorry I don't have alot of answers for you. Please go to breastcancer.org the site has great info. And join the discussion board there. There are lots of ladies there that have been through this and have been pregnant and the baby was fine, and very healthy even after they had chemo. They will probaly do chemo instead of radiation because of the baby. I am amazed they did not do mamo. I know it is porbaly because you are pregneant but they say we get so little radiation from mamos. Yeah right! I do hope things work out for you. If you go to the other site I sugested please come back here to keep me posted. It helps other ladies here also to read our stories and maybe you could comfort others.
