When calcifications are observed in clusters or groupings they do require a biopsy to determine the cause. When they group like this they are an indication that the breast is reacting to some abnormality within the breast tissue but not necessarily cancer. The posterior third would I imagine refer to the area closer to the chest wall than to the surface of the breast. Good luck with your biopsy on the 16th. Regards ....
