chemo vs horomone therapy after lumpectomy

by debann56, Jan 10, 2009 09:52AM
What is the difference in risk factor if I choose to do radiation & hormone therapy rather than radiation & chemo? I had a lumpectomy. The tumor measured 2.0 c, well differentiated, lymph  nodes and margins were clear. I am 56 years old and I assume I am post menopausal. I had my uterus removed 10yrs ago, still have my ovaries, but have not experianced any menopause symptoms.

This discussion is related to hormone therapy vs chemotherapy for post menopausal woman.

Chemo isn't usually recommended after lumpectomy unless there is some lymph node involvement. Standard treatment is Radiation followed by Hormone therapy; depending of course on the Estrogen positivity of the tumor. The question of what type of treatment would be best answered by your Oncologist who has the complete history of your disease as well as all the Pathology reports. Regards..
