chemotherapy and glucose level

chemotherapy and glucose level

I have been on Navelbine and Zometa weekly chemotherapies for months for my Metastatic Breast cancer treatment. Each week I have regular blood work. My last four-five consecutive blood reports show abnormal increase in glucose levels. (each time the level is between (240-275) compare to normal level which is 150.

my oncologist told me it might be the side effect of chemotherapy or since the blood test was taken after I ate lunch. But according to him, I don't have diebetes (diabetes). I have No histroy of diebetes (diabetes). My diet is completely diebetic (diabetic) - I don't eat any sugar. My carohydrate intake is limited.

I am very confused. Is Cancer producing the insuline? what can be the reasons? what should I do?

Dear melody03, Neither of these chemotherapies are known to cause increases in blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia).  It may be other medications are a factor (for example steroids can cause elevations in blood sugar).  As your blood sugar's have been consistently higher, it may be prudent to have this evaluated, your general internist could help with this evaluation.  Starting with a review of other medications, your other health history and a fasting blood sugar check.
