chemotherapy and scleroderma

I have been diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma, stage 1. I also have scleroderma. I could not receive radiation because of the scleroderma, so I had a mastectomy. Now I am facing chemo, and I wonder if there are any concerns relating to the use of chemo on a scleroderma patient.

Dear rad tech: Certainly, your rheumatologist and the oncologist should work together to determine the best course of therapy for you. Since autoimmune diseases and cancers tend to have some similarities, there has even been research on using chemotherapy to treat scleroderma. It is possible that you could get benefit to both problems but it would be beneficial for your doctors work together.
