cluster microcalcifications

Had my additional views today. there is no area of architctural disortion no skin thickening
or nipple retraction no suspicious masses. cluster microcalcifications along the 12o'clock axis about 4cm from the right nipple. The radiology feel they are benign and recommended to follow up in 6 months. She feel from looking at my old mammogram from years pass that these have always been there but are now showing because I had digital and they show more. Radiology is sending the report to breast surgery. She said to come back in 6 month for mammogram nothing to worry about.
I don't know if I should go on to the breast surgery or wait the 6 months and go back for another mammogram.
Is this normal . The first mammogram that came back with cluster microcalcifications did not do digital. Thats why she thinks they have always been there and now show up. I'm still worry Help

Oh... I forgot to mention.
If you feel uneasy about the 6 month wait period, you can discuss this with your doctor/ breast surgeon and suggest the possibility of having the calcification cluster biopsied, now. Actually, that's what I opted to do because I didn't like the idea of waiting 6 months without knowing the nature of these growths... but, that was also before I knew what I now know and understand about microcalcifications.

The 6 month wait-and-see approach is not uncommon... in fact, it's fairly standard.
And, what the 6 month mammogram will show is whether or not significant changes had occurred with the calcification growths.
Just so you know, calcifications are rarely cancerous. But, it's the sort of thing that one doesn't want to ignore because their appearance may indicate that something abnormal is occurring within the surrounding breast tissue.
If I were you, I really wouldn't worry. The same thing happened to me... twice, within a 3 year period. And, based on what you've been told and instructed to do, it is entirely consistent with my own experience and the experience that I've read about others who have developed these microcalcifications.
Take care!
