complex cyst/cancer

As I previously wrote, I have an 8mm complex cyst that I am to have biopsied.  Is this standard procedure -- to biospy something this small --?  If a malignancy is found, is it more likely to be a certain type of breast cancer, or can all types of breast cancer evolve from an initial complex cyst diagnosis?  I have read that 80% of complex cysts are benign.  Is this accurate?  Thanks.

Dear debkate:  When a decision is made to biopsy, it is usually not based on the size of the "abnormality."  Rather, it is based on the structure itself.  If this complex cyst has thick septations or if there are other concerning features, biopsy may be recommended. Most breast cancers do not evolve from cysts or have a cystic component.  As stated before, the majority of complex cysts turn out to be benign.  However,  a biopsy is the only way to be certain if there is any concern.
