complex cysts

12/08 mammogram was clear. I felt a large lump 9/09 left breast.  Had sonogram & mammo which showed solid masses in the 5 & 6 o'clock positions. Palpable aeas at left 5:00 and 6:00 1 cmfn scanned.  US shows multiple lesions sugg of complex cysts.  Max dimension 20 mm.  There is 7mm hypoechoic mass in 3 o'clock retroareolar postion.  Has additional lesion mass 11mm at retro 3:00.  Needle biopsies recommended.  The left nipple itched for about 5 months. Is that indicative of cysts or cancer? They kept asking me if I had pain.  I don't but the breast feels very full.  Also, could the cysts have been caused by taking hormone replacement therapy which I have taken for about 9 years (now age 61).  I stopped taking HRT about three weeks ago (cold turkey) and am suffering the consequences.

Breast cysts have often been related to the production of hormones. It was also proven several years ago that there was a relation between hormone positive breast cancer and Hormone Replacement Therapy. Pain is rarely associated with breast cancer (tumors) but cysts do cause considerable discomfort. The lesions you mention are quite small and I certainly hope that you plan to proceed with the recommended biopsiesl. Regards ....
