I developed a hernia at the tissue donor site in my left abdomen. I had mesh support inserted in March and was doing well until I suddenly had a fluid problem which I had to deal with for almost two weeks until over a gallon was drained.  Why did this happen and is it related to lymphedema?

Lymphedema is swelling in the arm or leg caused by excess fluid that collects after lymph nodes and vessels are removed by surgery or treated by radiation.  I’m not absolutely sure from your question where your fluid problem was, I’m assuming it was in the abdomen.  Fluid in the abdomen is not related to lymphedema.  The fluid may have been sent to the lab for analysis, this information would help to determine what the fluid is and could help to answer the question as to why this happened.
