core needle biopsy

core needle biopsy

The physician recommended core needle biopsy of a left breast lump on 9/25.  The pathology report indicated invasive ductal carcinoma.  I no longer feel the lump.  Can the core needle biopsy spread the cancer?  I wish they'd done a lumpectomy then a pathology report!

Hi,
You dont have to worry. The chances that cancer would have spread after the core needle biopsy are minimal. Ask the doctor about the treatment options that you have and how frequently do you need to follow up. You could still discuss the option of a surgical excision biopsy on the basis of your mammogram or USG report. Goodluck.
