cysts

My mom had breast cancer and now my sister has breast cancer. The doctors have found three cysts in my breasts. They say there is nothing to worry about and to come back for a mammogram in a year. Should the cysts be removed? Is there a chance there could be cancerous even if the doctors say no?

Dear Minnie, It's difficult to answer your question without additional information.  How were the cysts found? Did you find a lump?  Were they found on mammogram?  What was done to evaluate them?  Was an ultrasound done? Was fluid removed and sent to the lab for testing?  Are these cysts causing you discomfort? Depending on the answers to these questions and how comfortable you are with the evaluation done to lead to the diagnosis of cysts would determine if further evaluation should happen, and how comfortable you are with waiting a year.
