digital mammogram report

digital mammogram report

I just had my first digital mammogram following years of negative analog mammograms.  They called this a "new digital baseline", so I'll have it repeated in 6 months.  In the meantime, the digital mammogram showed that "the breasts were moderately dense, mildly nodular, and asymetric...especially true centrally in the right breast.  No dominant or discrete masses can be resolved at this time."  The report also stated "there are widespread calcifications in both breasts, some lying in small groups."  I'll wait out the 6 months with positive thoughts, but just wondered if anyone had any comments about this mammogram report.  I'm 52 and not yet in menopause.  Thanks for any comments/advice!

Calcifications are found normally within breast tissue, scattered about. When they are found in clusters or grouped in certain patterns they do become cause for concern. In these forms they are an indication of the response of the breast tissue to some abnormality ... but not necessarily cancer. A 6 month follow-up is pretty much routine in such instances to look for any changes that might have occured.   Regards .....
