digital mammography

I here that skin flaps are quite common and you are called back for another test.  How can we avoid getting flaps on digital mammography

This is not always the case and one should never try to avoid a "call back" Until the film is done in various views (compression or magnified) there is no way to tell what was seen on the screening film. You might ask your Physician to order a "Diagnostic" mammogram (if your Insurance will pay for it under your particular circumstance). "Digital" Mammography has nothing to do with it.  Regards ....

Are you talking about people being called back for a spot compression mammogram as followup to a regular mammogram, and the comment frequently posted in this forum, telling them  not to get overly concerned because "it may just be that some was skin folded over"?

If that's what you meant, no, there is nothing you can do to avoid that happening.  It's related to the way the the breast happens to get situated as the plates are being squeezed together on opposite sides of the breast.

As japdip indicated, the only way to be sure what caused it to not look entirely normal in the original images is to have additional images, such as a spot compression mammogram, performed.

Unfortunately this often results in a good deal of worry, not to mention additional cost, but it is the only way to tell if the "abnormality" persists, and to come up with the complete information needed to allow the radiologist to confidently assign  the correct BI-RADS Category.

Best wishes...

Well additional cost is never a problem here.  I live in Canada and it is all covered thank goodness.  We never have to pay for tests unless they are out of the OHIP range.   Ontario Hospital Insurance Plan.   Every province has its own coverage.
I have to go back on the radiologists suggestion to my doctor.  So the Doctor ordered another one.  Special View Left Breast and and Ultrasound.  They called it a skin flap and yes I think it is breast tissue folding over.  But I have to look at it as really making sure everything is fine.  I have too many friends that don't have mammograms because they don't want to know  if anything is wrong.

yes my doctor ordered an ultrasound too as well as the special view which is likely breast tissue folded over.  You are right we should never avoid callbacks.  I have a mammogram every year.  We are totally covered for all tests in Canada so not worried about that thank goodness.  We have no excuse not to follow up on tests.
