discharge

My mother is going through a breast cancer scare right now (nothing has been diagnosed yet....she goes to the surgeon tomorrow) which has prompted me to do the self breast exams.  I am only 24 but I figured it couldn't hurt.  About a month ago I was doing a self breast exam and I squezed my nipple to see if any discahrge came out and a clear sticky discharge came out (hardly any).  I didn't really think anything of it and went about my business.  Last week I squeezed my nipple again to see if anything came out and it was a clear sticky discharge and this time there was a little blood as well.  Both times the amount was miniscule and it only happens with my left breast.  Should I go get a mammagram?  I want to make sure that I am safe but at the same time, I don't want to worry my family especially since we are going through issues with my mom right now.  Any guidance would be great.  Thanks.

Any time you squeeze your breasts it sends a signal to the pituitary gland in the brain to produce prolactin and this is what causes the discharge is. Suggest you stop squeezing them - the time to worry is when you get a discharge without squeezing.
