does pimrose oil help fibrocystic breasts?

by newgirl77, Dec 12, 2007 02:26PM
I'm waiting on my ultrasound results right now to see what I'm dealing with.  What I do know is that I have fibrocystic breasts.  Does pimrose oil help this condition?  My doctor said "I'm not even going to discuss hippie medicine" when I asked.  If it does help, then how much should I take and when.  I will get an opinion from another doctor before taking it, just to make sure it is ok for me.  I'm firing my doctor anyway,  he told me I had "asked for breast cancer" by smoking cigarettes.  I dont even know that I have cancer yet.

Hi.  There are claims that primrose oil alleviates breast pain from fibrocystic disease, but these claims are not yet backed by solid evidence. The U.S. National Institutes of Health has stated in their website that the use of evening primrose oil for fibrocystic disease is controversial (evidence is conflicting).  If you still want to use it, the dose that has been used in studies is 3 grams per day for 6 months.

Hi,
There are no proven reports or studies. It is still controversial about its benefits, but doctors still recommend it. Consult your physician before you use it though.
Goodluck
