drainage fluid

i had a mastectomy on the 12th of december and had the drainage tube removed on the 23rd which was almost 2 weeks. the drain incision is still leaking fluid. i have applied heat to it, tried to massage the area, and it still leaks. not all the time, but enough to make big wet spots. i had a mastectomy 6 yrs ago on the right side and don't remember having a problem with it doing this. i did have to have aspiration 3 times for fluid but it wasn't at the drain site. how long do you think this will continue and should i call doctor?

Some drainage from the incision site is quite normal. Incisions take time to heal. Massaging it doesn't let it heal and applying heat isn't a good idea either. I agree that you should call your surgeons office. They may suggest you keep a bandage over it or they may suggest you come in to be seen.

Best wishes

I don't think you should doing any of the things you have mentioned unless this was advised by your Surgeon. The drainage tube is quite a distance from the actual insertion site so this fluid may represent another problem If you haven't discussed this with your Surgeon I suggest you do so as soon as possible.
