ductile papillomas

by menopausalmom, Apr 13, 2009 01:27PM
44 year old menopausal woman on premarin to reduce symptoms. 4 years ago I had needle aspirations of my left breast due to large cysts. Now, I have had clear to amber sticky discharge from my right nipple for over a year.  Had a mamogram (mammogram) in Nov. The breast center contacted me and stated I needed a galactogram to determine the origin of the discharge . The Radiologist had problems getting the small cath into the duct where the clear fluid was coming from, after 30 minutes of expressing" to find ducts, fluid was then noted coming from other ducts, and  was able to insert the cathater into another duct and infuse the dye to do a mamogram (mammogram) with the contrast.  He showed me several "papillomas" that were visible to me through the screen showing the scan and said that with the amount of ducts that now have discharge, they too probably had these nodules (papillomas) in them. Stated that my dr would call and probably schedule me with a breast surgeon.  A week has passed with no word from my Dr.  My question is: Should I contact a breast surgeon on my own? or wait until my "follow up" appointment? My Dr doens't have a concern that anything is wrong (he waited until I insisted after 8 months after the mamogram (mammogram) to order this galactogram). I have breast cancer in my family and I am concerned that the longer I wait, these papillomas could become cancer.  I've done alot of research on intraductile papillomas, and most are benign but with my history I am worried.... Thanks for anyones help in advance!

Dear menopausalmom:  Whether you should call the surgeon or wait until the follow up is really up to you and your level of comfort.  If you are worried, call.
