elevated liver enzymes

elevated liver enzymes

I currently have a stage 2B breast cancer 3cm ductal carcinoma surrounded by 5cm of precancerous cells so they said it was only 3 cm with 1 node involved after a full disection, and I started chemo for 1 1/2 weeks ago now. On the day I was to have my first treatment we waited on blood work to come back and I could hear them talking about elevated liver enzymes and that we needed to recheck them so we drew blood again and resent the labs for them to come back the same. My doctor pulled me aside and questioned me on if I was taking any meds, herbal teas ect... which I had not. I had been off from my medications from surgery for over 3 weeks then and all the 3 blood tests those three weeks were normal. They decided to just give me half of the A dose and the full C dose as I am doing a dose dense regiment every 2 weeks instead of 3 . So I went back for my weekly blood work and still the same results, elevated liver enzymes. He questioned me again about meds, herbs, if I was yellowed at all, ect... and ordered a Hepatitis work up. I just received the Neg results for Hepatitis, but now I have to wonder if this means I have a high chance of liver spread, which he did say was possible. We will be doing liver scans soon. I have searched alot on this issue and have ruled out most of the usual reasons for an elevated liver enzyme showing up. I did though think I may posibly have Post Operative Jaundice and have called the hospital/Dr and threw that out there at him since I have been yellow alot lately and had a port placement one week before my chemo started., I have read that this kind of jaundice is common with upper abdominal surgerys. I am hoping this is the answer I need, but thought I would ask here to see what the odds of this being a cancer spread since we have ruled out the Hepatitis . Any imput would be great as I am starting to be concerned.

Dear cldubsokind, Liver enzymes can be elevated for a number of reasons, including toxicity to medications, infection (hepatitis), as well as cancer.   As various possible causes are ruled out it narrows the explanations for causes of the increase, but still this needs to be evaluated in context of the individual situation.
