estraderm patch

by miracatgirl, Oct 04, 2002 12:00AM
Hello. I am using the estraderm patch. I wear it on my breast because I find that my bra prevents it from falling off or becoming loose. I just read the insert in the box and it says not to apply it to the breast area. Why shouldn't I do that? Many thanks for any help!!
P.S. is estraderm linked to breast cancer? my doctor says no.

Dear miracatgirl, The product information warns against wearing the estraderm patch on the breast "to avoid potentially harmful side effects to breast tissue".  I could not determine from the information what these potentially harmful side effects are.  An alternative might be to place it under the strap of the bra on the back.

Estraderm patch contains the natural estrogen - estradiol.  The patch comes in various dosage strengths.  There has been alot of controversy over the use of hormone replacement therapy and breast cancer risk.  Estrogens are contraindicated in women with a history of breast cancer.  There is a slight increased risk of breast cancer in women 50-70 years old who have used hormone replacement therapy (HRT)for greater than five years.  Discuss with your doctor these risks vs. the potential benefits as they apply to your particular situation.
