estrogen +ve,progesterone -ve

my mother age is 52,she had recently operated for mastectomy in her left breast,the tumor size is 3x2.5x2.5.in the pathology test they have conformed that 5 out of 15 auxillary nodes are involved and in immunohistochemistry they have stated that this is invasive ductal carcinoma with foci of dcis with comedonecrosis and estrogen receptor is +ve and progesterone receptor is -ve and test +ve for her 2/neu oncoprotein over expression and modified bloom richardson's score is 7.so,by taking chemotherpy treatment and hormone therpy treatment is this cancer will be cured or it recome again

Hi there.

It is very hard to define cure.  Some oncologist would say that cure is free from recurrence after five years of diagnosis.  A positive Her2neu points out to a more aggressive tumor and this is evidenced by the early spread to the lymph nodes.  I suggest you discuss with your oncologist regarding radiation therapy and a specific treatment for Her2neu which is Herceptin.  After which, hormonal therapy is also warranted.  These treatment should decrease the chance of your mother having a recurrence or a metastasis, though there is no full proof way of telling whether it would go away for good or not.
