fibradenoma

I recently found a rather large lump in my breast which an ultrasound showed it was most likely benign. I got a second opinion, from a surgeon who looked at my ultrasound picture. I had spinal surgery when I was 12 and he said that it may be fibroadenoma OR a mass of scar tissue/nerves. My problem is that I have heart palpitations and feel a lot of pain in the lump. Sometimes---I know this sounds weird--I feel my heart throbbing in the lump. The doc said I could have it removed but that it is 99% likely to be benign. Is there any cause for concern? Has anyone else had this experience with either diagnosis, especially the scar tissue mass forming? Any comments would be appreciated!! Thank you!

Dear Daphne5, I'm a little confused, is this lump at or in the path of the prior surgery site?  If so, it does happen that scar tissue formation can occur to such an area.  Fibroadenomas are a very common nonmalignant type of breast lump.  They are usually smooth and hard, often near the nipple, but can be found in any part of the breast.  They are harmless in themselves as long as we are sure that they are a fibroadenoma.  A biopsy of the lump could be done for more reassurance.  If this lump is causing you discomfort and having it removed is a reasonable possibility, the removed tissue would be sent to be examined by a pathologist and the question of whether it is cancer or not would be known for sure.

Thank you so much for your comments!!
Sorry, I was not very clear. The surgery I had was for scoliosis, and was a anterior operation, leaving me with a wide ring of a scar  underneath my left breast to my mid-back. The lump I found is on the outer side of my breast, above the scar. The whole breast region underneath my breast and side and back has been numb since surgery. I only found the lump because I was laying on my side exercising in front of a mirror and saw a huge lump. It is reassuring to hear that it is benign but I was wondering about why I would feel that sensation of my heart beating in the lump, and why it gets very sore if I push on it. Is that normal? Should I have it checked periodically? Thank you so much for your help!
Daphne
