fibroadenomas and breastfeeding

Hi there, can a woman who has cysts or fibroadenoma breastfeed her child.

Hi,
There is no danger to the baby if ever you breast feed.  This fibroadenoma  though, should be followed up and would warrant a biopsy if there is an increase in size and changes in in the shape. fibroadenomas and cysts do not remarkably increase the risk of developing future breast cancers.
You can also monitor your fibroadenomas through regular physician visits, as well as through imaging studies such as mammograms or ultrasound. Take care.

Thank you for the reply. What if the fibroadenoma fills the whole breast. Will the breast tissue be destroyed.

I don't see why would one let the fibroadenoma grow to the point of  filling the whole breast .A surgery for fibroadenoma is done if the lump is causing pain and is large (About 3 to 4cm). Otherwise, conservative management with regular follow ups is advisable as these usually regress post menopause.
If you have been advised surgery, then you need to discuss with your surgeon the procedure details, the approximate size of the lump that would be removed.
The surgery - a lumpectomy in most cases, is a safe surgery and the procedure does not destroy breast tissue,but leaves a scar where the incision is made and a dimple where the fibroadenoma was removed.Take care.and best wishes.
