fibroadenomas of both breast

I am 51 years old and I was diagnosed with a marginated heterogeneous breast nodule measuring 1.6 cm of the upper outer quadrant of the left breast and with nodular density and a heterogeneous area measuring 12mm in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast. Breast cancer runs in my family with my mother at age 55, two of her sisters, a maternal cousin and my fathers sister. I have been referred to a surgeon for further evaluation and would like to know if I need to be really concerned. I am worried about this.

Usually between 4 to 7 days before the full report has been delivered to your Physician. This can differ depending on the Institution where the biopsy is done. Keep us posted ... we'll be waiting too.

scheduled my biopsy for January 14th. Does anyone know how long it takes to get the results after the biopsy is done?

First I am wondering why you titled your post as "Fibroadenomas of both breasts" ..... You describe the sizes that were stated in your report but did not mention that it was suggested that these areas may represent Fibroadenomas. I can certainly understand your concern even IF the report referred to the areas as being Fibroadenomas. When you are evaluated by the Surgeon I would imagine that a biopsy may well be advised to determine 100% as to the nature of the findings. Considering your family history I would personally insist on a biopsy of both areas just to be sure. I suppose you can be as concerned as much as you wish ..... my personal feeling is always "I want to know with 100% certainty what these areas are !!" and we all know that ONLY a biopsy can determine this. IF these two findings turn out to be the benign breast tumors (Fibroadenomas) you should ALWAYS investigate anything new or different when it comes to the breast. Please add a comment to this post when you see the Surgeon with his/her opinion and your next step. Regards ....
