fluid filled lump

How are you i have a question. My girlfriend who is 28 yrs old recently found a lump in her upper left breast,he went for a mammogram and a sonogram yesterday and the tech told her it was fluid filled and about 1.7cm.I was wondering what you think it could be and if it might be cancerous she is waiting for the results and i don't know how to relax her. I was doing research and the say if it is fluid filled it is more likely a cyst but we were doing some moving about 3 days before she felt it and i was wonderoing if it could be a clot or something. If you could shed some light i would appreciate it.

Hi,
The most likely chances are that this is a cyst - mostly benign - which is a fluid filled swelling. What is important is that if it is painful or lumpy the fluid needs to be aspirated or removed. This helps in preventing any superadded infection or abscees formation also. Discuss with your physician if you need to take a course of antibiotics for it. The fluid that is removed is usually sent for further lab tests to be absolutely sure. Goodluck.
